For many of the Christians who are participating in the 40 DFL, the campaign runs concurrently with a time of fasting and personal sacrifice.
These actions that are encouraged during the season of Lent, which precedes the Easter season celebration of Jesus Christ’s resurrection.  Many Christians believe that God will take our personal suffering and use it in a salvific manner on behalf of our intentions.
We invite all who participate in the 40 DFL Campaign, Christian or not, to consider the value of offering some type of personal sacrifice on behalf of the voiceless and helpless unborn.
For some, this suffering will not be intentional, due to sickness, recent loss of a loved one, or other painful life challenge.  If this is your situation, by offering your suffering for the benefit of the unborn, your suffering will be given meaning and purpose.
For others, you can select your method of sacrifice.

Some suggestions:

  • Giving up a favorite food or food group, especially one that does not benefit your health (ice cream, candy, etc.)

  • Giving up a favorite activity (going the movies, going out to dinner, watching a favorite TV show, etc.)

  • Adding an activity that benefits others (helping out at the local food bank, visiting home-bound seniors, etc.)

  • Making a sacrificial contribution that will help others (donate to KHL to support the 40 DFL campaign, donate to PRS to help women in crisis pregnancies, donate to a food bank, or non-profit thrift store such as St. Vincent de Paul)
